Bolton Wanderers vs Grimsby Town - Captain Jay Spearing to miss Bolton's FA Cup tie against Grimsby

Posted Friday, November 04, 2016 by PA

Bolton are without injured captain Jay Spearing and the suspended Josh Vela for the FA Cup first round visit of Grimsby.

Spearing has torn a calf muscle and is being sent for a second scan to determine the extent of the damage.

Fellow midfielder Vela, meanwhile, serves a one-game ban and Spanish defender Derik is an injury doubt.

Manager Phil Parkinson is seeking clarification on the availability of some of his loan players and still expects Tom Thorpe (ankle), Darren Pratley (broken leg) and Mark Davies (knee) to miss out.

Grimsby's caretaker-boss Dave Moore will take charge of the Mariners for the second time after last weekend's goalless draw at Yeovil.

Moore's options are set to be restricted because right-back Ben Davies and striker Ashley Chambers are both short of match fitness and not expected to take part.

Moore made two changes for last week's trip to Somerset with Scott Vernon and James Berrett being handed chances to impress in the starting line-up.

But Kayden Jackson and Dominic Vose are both available and pushing to reclaim their places in the side.
