Athletic Bilbao 1 - 1 Osasuna: Athletic Bilbao left frustrated as struggling Osasuna claim San Mames draw

Athletic Bilbao were held to a disappointing 1-1 draw by struggling Osasuna in LaLiga on Sunday.

Athletic had 70 per cent of possession and 18 shots but ended with only Raul Garcia's goal to show for their efforts as they failed to make meaningful headway on the teams above them.

Garcia's 28th-minute effort came after Oriol Riera had given Osasuna the lead five minutes earlier at San Mames.

Osasuna have managed just one win from 10 games and sit second bottom of the table.

Riera had twice forced saves from Gorka Iraizoz before opening the scoring by heading home Roberto Torres' cross.

But Osasuna's lead was cancelled out almost immediately, Garcia responding with a header of his own, assisted by Sabin Merino.

The visitors lost Didier Digard to injury but continued to threaten and Sergio Leon sent an effort off target.

Athletic became increasingly dominant as the game wore on but they could not find a winner.

Garcia saw a 71st-minute shot blocked while substitute Aritz Aduriz was denied by a fine save from Nauzet Perez, who kept out the striker's header low down at his right-hand post.

Aymeric Laporte was the next to test Perez with a shot from outside the box but again the Osasuna keeper was up to the task.

The visitors' goal was under siege as Inaki Williams and Mikel San Jose tried their luck, while Mikel Rico pulled his effort just wide as the hosts' afternoon ended in intense frustration.
