Celta Vigo 4 - 1 Deportivo La Coruna: Iago Aspas bags a brace as Celta win Galician derby

Celta Vigo claimed Galician bragging rights with a 4-1 LaLiga derby victory over Deportivo La Coruna at Balaidos.

The game was delicately poised 1-1 at half-time with Raul Albentosa's first Deportivo goal quickly cancelling out Hugo Mallo's powerful strike.

But Celta took control in a fiery contest of eight bookings after Iago Aspas had dispatched a controversial penalty on the hour.

Fabian Orellana's header gave Celta a two-goal cushion before Aspas added to Deportivo's misery seven minutes from time.

Both sides came into the game on the back of heavy league defeats, with Celta thrashed 5-0 at Villarreal and Deportivo beaten 4-0 at Barcelona.

Celta started the better with Aspas' header smartly tipped over by German Lux and penalty appeals waved away when Mallo was barged over by Fernando Navarro.

The breakthrough came in the 32nd minute when Orellana's clever control and pass slipped in Mallo, who smashed home from a tight angle.

But the visitors were level within five minutes when former Derby defender Albentosa rose superbly to meet Faycal Fajr's free-kick.

Deportivo continued to cause problems from set-pieces, but Celta were back ahead after Sidnei was harshly adjudged to have handled Daniel Wass' header. The ball rebounded off Sidnei's thigh and on to his arm, but Aspas made no mistake as he converted the penalty off a post.

Orellana then headed home Jonny's cross 12 minutes from time and Aspas soon strode through a tiring Deportivo defence to leave the visitors above the relegation zone only by virtue of goal difference.
