Jonas Lossl hopes Mainz can continue their impressive debut in the group stages of the Europa League with victory over Anderlecht on Thursday.

The German side have taken four points from games against St Etienne and Gabala and now face the other unbeaten side in Group C.

Mainz have also made a good start to the Bundesliga season to sit seventh.

Goalkeeper Lossl, the replacement for Loris Karius following his move to Liverpool, told the club website: "We want to go as far as possible in all competitions and are on track to do that.

"We could have earned two more points, but four points is completely acceptable. Anderlecht will be a key game for us.

"If we play to our potential, then I am confident that we will come away with a win. That is our number one goal.

"Obviously, Anderlecht are a club with a lot of international experience. But we want to give them a very tough match in front of our own fans.

"I think it will be an evenly-matched game and we want to take another big step towards qualifying out of our group."

Anderlecht are also in good form and sit top of the Belgian league having lost just one of their 10 league games under new coach Rene Weiler.

The Swiss left Nurnberg in the summer to take over at the Brussels club, succeeding Besnik Hasi.

Weiler admitted in an interview with Het Laatste Nieuws that he was not entirely happy with what he found, saying: "When I arrived I immediately noticed that not everyone in the locker room radiated the fire to meet the challenge with me."
