Cologne moved up to second in the Bundesliga behind Bayern Munich thanks to a 2-1 win over struggling Ingolstadt which extended their unbeaten start to the season to seven games.
Anthony Modeste put the Goats in front in the 28th minute, latching onto Yuya Osako's pass, took the ball down well and beat Orjan Nyland.
Modeste added his and Cologne's second 10 minutes later from the penalty spot after Osako was fouled by Tobias Levels, completing his third brace in the Bundesliga to take him to the top of the scoring charts with his seventh of the season.
Cologne did not need a third, but they were made to sweat it out late on when Lukas Hinterseer pulled one back for the guests from the penalty spot in the last minute, but it was too little too late for the Bavarians, who dropped to the foot of the table.
