Nottingham Forest vs Birmingham - Forest duo edging closer to returns

Daniel Pinillos and Britt Assombalonga are edging nearer a return to fitness as Nottingham Forest prepare to host Midlands rivals Birmingham.

Defender Pinillos and striker Assombalonga have been struggling with knee injuries in recent weeks but both players have resumed training and are making good progress according to Reds boss Philippe Montanier, who will begin a two-match touchline ban on Friday night.

Assistant first-team coach Serge Romano will man the dug-out in Montanier's absence as Forest look for a first win in seven Sky Bet Championship games.

Matty Fryatt also continues to work on his fitness but his long-standing Achilles problem is preventing him from resuming training and no time-scale has been put on his possible return.

Birmingham could have top scorer Clayton Donaldson back after an Achilles injury.

The four-goal striker has missed Blues' last three games with the problem but has returned to training ahead of the trip to the City Ground.

Robert Tesche (ankle), Tomasz Kuszczak (thigh) and Maikel Kieftenbeld have all recovered from their problems, although midfielder Tesche did suffer a minor knock in training this week.

Paul Caddis is missing with a shoulder injury and is not expected to return for several weeks following surgery.
