The German World Cup winner is yet to make an appearance for United's first-team this season after being frozen out at Old Trafford by Jose Mourinho.

However, according to The Sun, he has taken on extra gym sessions to get himself match fit.

They say the 32-year-old has his eye on a move to the MLS or back to Germany, where he enjoyed 13 successful years with Bayern Munich.

OUTCAST: Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger

His professional attitude has not gone unnoticed at Old Trafford, with one United insider telling The Sun: "We have been very impressed with him. He has managed to get himself much fitter over the last month.

"He has got his head down and really pushed himself and is visibly lighter after getting over his injuries from last season.

"The support staff and some of his team-mates are pleased for him. He hasn't moaned once and is coming in and worked hard in the gym.

"He is obviously fulfilling his contractual obligations but he appears happy and it wouldn't be a surprise if he has something lined up in January."

United paid Bayern £6.5m to bring Schweinsteiger to Manchester in the summer of 2015.

But has made just 18 appearances and scored one goal during a stop-start career in England.
