Greenock 1 - 0 Raith Rovers: Ross Forbes fires Morton to victory

Posted Sunday, October 02, 2016 by PA

Ross Forbes' fantastic first-half free-kick helped Morton maintain their unbeaten home record with a 1-0 win over Raith.

Forbes made no mistake from 25 yards in the 18th minute, scoring his third goal of the season after Jai Quitongo was brought down.

Raith goalkeeper Kevin Cuthbert saved well from Mark Russell and Andy Murdoch had a shot cleared off the line as Morton came close to doubling their lead.

The visitors nearly levelled in fortuitous circumstances when Russell's clearance ricochet off Tom O'Ware and trickled wide and Declan McManus shot wide.

Morton then wasted a glorious chance to wrap up the win when they broke two-on-one but Gary Oliver dragged his shot wide from 12 yards.

Substitute goalkeeper Derek Gaston ensured the three points for Morton with two crucial late saves.
