Bristol City 1 - 0 Leeds United: Garry Monk sees red as Leeds lose at Bristol City

Leeds boss Garry Monk was sent to the stands as his side went down to a 1-0 Championship defeat at Bristol City.

Marlon Pack netted the only goal after 59 minutes, robbing Stuart Dallas near the halfway line and then running onto Lee Tomlin's pass before shooting past Robert Green.

It was all too much for Monk, who was dismissed from the dug-out in the closing minutes for remarks made to the fourth official.

City deserved their win and had chances to extend their lead as Leeds committed more men forward in search of the equaliser.

Bobby Reid shot wide when he might have scored and then had a late effort saved by Green while Luke Freeman tripped when through on goal.

Leeds failed to create many clear openings, not least because of a dominant display from City centre-back Aden Flint.

The closest they came to levelling was after 75 minutes when Frank Fielding saved from Chris Wood following an error by Hordur Magnusson.

Both sides had first-half chances. Tomlin fired into the side-netting from a narrow angle after 18 minutes.

Leeds carved out a better opportunity two minutes later when Hadi Sacko crossed from the right and Pablo Hernandez sent a first-time shot wide from inside the box.

Fielding made the first save of note after 28 minutes, parrying a fierce drive from Sacko, who was looking a threat.

The hosts sprang to life as an attacking force just before the break when top scorer Tammy Abraham mishit his shot from a Tomlin pass and then fired wide from a Mark Little cross.

Reid's chip then saw Jamie Paterson get in behind the Leeds defence only to see his close-range shot smothered by Green.

The first half ended with tempers flared as Tomlin and Dallas clashed in the Leeds box and were booked. Referee Keith Stroud then lectured both benches without taking further action.

Leeds made a change at the start of the second half, sending on Liam Cooper for Pontus Jansson, who had been booked and reprimanded by referee Stroud.

City were soon forced into a switch of their own as right-back Little pulled up sharply chasing a ball and had to be replaced by Taylor Moore, making his home debut.

The home side defended solidly as Leeds poured forward in the closing stages and rarely looked like conceding.

That meant frustration for the 2,065 travelling Leeds fans who gave their side great support throughout.
