Crewe Alexandra vs Blackpool - Nugent and Saunders set to miss out for Crewe

Crewe have doubts over defender Ben Nugent and striker Callum Saunders for the visit of Blackpool on Saturday.

Both Nugent and Saunders picked up knocks playing for the club's development squad at Colchester on Monday night.

The absence of Saunders will be a particular blow after the striker scored twice and impressed in the win at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

Nugent, who has aggravated a recent groin strain, will face a late test but is expected to be included in the matchday squad.

Blackpool manager Gary Bowyer's squad is slowly growing in strength with a number of players returning from injury.

Forward Jamille Matt came on as a substitute for last Saturday's draw with Carlisle after being sidelined since early August with an ankle problem.

Striker Mark Cullen also made the bench for that game following a hamstring problem but was unused.

Fellow forward Jack Redshaw (shin splints) has progressed to jogging but is still some way off a return.
