Preston vs Wigan - Preston boss Simon Grayson could welcome back quartet after cup win
Posted Friday, September 23, 2016 by PA
Preston manager Simon Grayson has to assess if any of his players suffered after-effects from the midweek extra-time win over Bournemouth ahead of Friday's visit of Wigan.
Cup-tied defender Alex Baptiste is available again as are Aiden McGeady, Anders Lindegaard and Paul Gallagher, who did not travel to the south coast.
Defender Marnick Vermijl's hamstring strain last weekend keeps him out.
Striker Jermaine Beckford is making good progress with a similar problem but will not be risked until he is 100 per cent.
Wigan midfielder Alex Gilbey is sidelined with knee and ankle injuries which are likely to keep him out for the foreseeable future.
Deadline day signing Nathan Byrne is set to come in for his first start, having replaced Gilbey against Fulham last weekend.
Nick Powell returned from a groin problem as a substitute in that game and could be in contention to start.
Defender Reece Burke had an operation on a hernia this week and will be out for up to a month.
