Saint-Etienne 1 - 0 Bastia: St Etienne snatch late winner
Posted Monday, September 19, 2016 by PA
Substitute Romain Hamouma scored a stoppage-time penalty as St Etienne snatched a 1-0 win over Bastia in Ligue 1.
The hosts had earlier missed from the spot through Robert Beric and were on course to draw for the fifth successive game until Hamouma's late intervention.
Slovenia striker Beric saw his powerful penalty pushed away by Jean-Louis Leca in the seventh minute at Stade Geoffroy-Guichard after being brought down by the Bastia goalkeeper.
Les Verts dominated the game but the away side threatened when Lassana Coulibaly's effort midway through the first half was kept out by home keeper Stephane Ruffier.
Bastia looked to have done enough to earn a point until the fourth minute of time added on when forward Hamouma, a 58th-minute replacement for Vincent Pajot, calmly converted into the bottom right corner from 12 yards after he was fouled by visiting captain Yannick Cahuzac.
