Bradford AFC vs Bristol Rovers - Bradford boosted by return of defensive duo

Posted Thursday, September 15, 2016 by PA

Bradford defenders Rory McArdle and Nathan Clarke could both return to contention for the home game against Bristol Rovers.

McArdle has yet to feature this season after having a shoulder operation in the summer and will be assessed after playing 90 minutes for the reserves in midweek, while fellow centre-half Clarke has played no part due to a calf injury.

Another central defender, Matt Kilgallon, is pushing for his first league appearance for the Bantams and it remains to be seen whether boss Stuart McCall retains skipper Romain Vincelot at the heart of defence.

Striker Marc McNulty, on loan from Sheffield United, could make a first start and Newcastle loanee Haris Vuckic is hoping to make his first appearance. McCall has no new injury concerns.

Rovers boss Darrell Clarke is expected to keep changes to a minimum despite a run of six games without a win.

Clarke was pleased with his side's performance in the 1-1 home draw with Walsall on Tuesday which left the Pirates just outside the League One relegation zone.

Byron Moore made an impressive start after his debut had been delayed by a thigh problem following his summer switch from Port Vale.

Loan recruit Jake Clarke-Salter and veteran midfielder Lee Mansell are close to making the matchday squad after injury, with Liam Lawrence the only player remaining in the Rovers treatment room.
