Man United eye Euro 2016 star: Jose Mourinho to make January approach - reports

That is according to Italian outlet Calcio Mercato.

They believe Jose Mourinho is very interested in the 24-year-old, who played a prominent role in Portugal’s Euro 2016 triumph this summer.

He was consequently the subject of interest from a number of European clubs, including several from the Premier League.

Everton, Leicester and Southampton were all reportedly keen.

But Mourinho will hope to lure his compatriot to Old Trafford when the transfer window reopens in four months time.

Carvalho joined Sporting at the tender age of 13 in 2011 and has since emerged as a key player for the Portuguese side.

He made 27 top flight appearances under Jorge Jesus last term, scoring two goals in the process.

There are currently four years left to run on his current contract in Lisbon.
