Ayr Utd. 2 - 1 Greenock: Ayr rise from bottom of table after beating 10-man Morton
Posted Sunday, September 11, 2016 by PA
Ayr climbed off the foot of the Ladbrokes Championship and above 10-man Morton after a 2-1 win at Somerset Park.
They broke the deadlock in the 48th minute when a good move down the left allowed Gary Harkins to tee up Paul Cairney and he fired in from six yards.
Harkins was again the provider as Alan Forrest volleyed in a second goal in the 69th minute and Morton were reduced to 10 men five minutes later after Mark Russell was sent off for pulling back Kevin Nisbet when he was through on goal.
Ross Forbes gave Morton hope with a superb 22-yard free-kick in the 86th minute but Ayr held on for the victory.
