Celta Vigo vs Atletico Madrid - Simeone demands more

Diego Simeone will continue to berate his side's performances until they reach his high standards as they look to get their season on track with a win at Celta Vigo.

Atleti have conjured up only two points in their opening two fixtures of the season, drawing with LaLiga new boys Alaves and Leganes to leave them four points behind city rivals Real and Barcelona already.

But the Argentinian wants his team to find a way to earn victory and hit back at their critics after the disappointing start to the campaign.

Speaking to the media ahead of Saturday's lunchtime match, Simeone said: "I'm focused on the sporting aspect only and Celta.

"We need to improve and to seek alternatives to win, Celta is another tough match so we will have to work really hard to win. It will be difficult against an opponent who is intense and has many offensive alternatives.

"We demand results and I will criticise when performances are not to the standard expected and results are poor.

"Good results are a requirement for us and it's what is expected. Last season was great and we hope to end this one equally well."

The Atletico boss also spoke briefly about Thursday's rejected appeal against their one-year transfer ban for breaching rules governing the transfer and registration of players aged under 18 by FIFA.

"The club has worked on alternatives in case of a possible sanction and it's difficult to give a decisive opinion on the team now because it's normally assessed at the end of a campaign," he said.

Full-back Juanfran is not panicking about the recent poor form and is still confident in the abilities of his team-mates and head coach and believes the right result is just around the corner.

"I'm convinced that if we can win in Vigo, things will be seen differently. I'm convinced that the group is going to play a great match and we're going to win on Saturday," he said in quotes reported on the club's official website.

"Atletico Madrid has set the bar so high in the past few years that there is not much patience. But we have a great squad. Every year we get better, and every year the club makes a bigger effort, and every year we have a better squad.

"He (Simeone) is the best coach in the world and the best coach for this Atletico Madrid side."

Celta Vigo are in equally bad form ahead of Saturday's clash as they look to pick up their first point of the season after losing to Leganes on the opening weekend before falling to Real Madrid more recently.

They could also be without five first-team players at Balaidos.

Marcelo Diaz (hamstring), Carles Planas (leg), Ruben Blanco (medial ligament) and Claudio Beauvue (Achilles) will all definitely be out while Fabian Orellana is doubtful after returning to training on Friday after a hamstring injury.
