Scunthorpe United vs Southend United - Jonny Margetts a doubt for Scunthorpe

Scunthorpe new boy Jonny Margetts is set to miss his side's clash with Southend at Glanford Park.

Margetts is struggling with a dead leg, but in better news for Iron boss Graham Alexander, Kevin van Veen is fit again after sustaining a neck injury against Port Vale last weekend.

Jamie Ness and Luke Williams will both be looking to return to the squad after short spells on the sidelines due to injury.

Alexander has no fresh injury worries and could also call on recent loan signings Harry Toffolo and Richie Smallwood.

Southend are likely to be without veteran centre-back Anton Ferdinand because of a hamstring problem.

Ryan Inniss could be included in the squad after the defender completed a loan move from Crystal Palace and played 90 minutes for the Under-21s against Barnet, while midfielder Adam King should be fit to play despite suffering a broken hand in the 1-1 draw at League One leaders Bolton.

Ted Smith retained his place in goal at the Macron Stadium, with regular number one Mark Oxley on the bench. Defender Jason Demetriou will be assessed after returning from international duty with Cyprus, playing in the 3-0 defeat to Belgium.

Winger Stephen McLaughlin and defender Ben Coker are hoping to return to action, while midfielders Michael Timlin and Anthony Wordsworth (both hamstring) are stepping up their recoveries. Forward Nile Ranger (ankle) remains out.
