Man United star wanted deadline day move: Mourinho blocked the deal

European news outlet Calciomercato claim the full back was keen on the switch, but Jose Mourinho blocked it.

The Italian ace joined Manchester United last summer from Torino, arriving in a deal worth ￡12m.

He made a bright start to life in England and was named United's Player of the Month for August.

But injury woes and poor form saw him lose his place in Louis van Gaal's first team towards the end of the campaign.

His future was plunged into further doubt by Mourinho's appointment in May.

The former Chelsea chief has made Antonio Valencia his first-choice right-back at Old Trafford.

However, Mourinho reportedly wanted the versatile 26-year-old to remain on the books as cover for injuries and suspensions.
