Boateng’s Bayern return delayed

Germany’s Footballer of the Year, Jerome Boateng, has refused to put a date on his comeback from injury, with his recovery taking longer than expected.
The 28-year-old had hoped to be fit in time to take part in FC Bayern München’s season opener with Werder Bremen, but has now revealed he will still be sidelined for some time, having only been able to do some “running and fitness training”.
The Germany international tore a muscle in his country’s Euro 2016 semi-final defeat to France on 7 July.
Speaking to Kicker, Boateng said: “I’m on the right path. But this coming week, I’ll still probably be only able to do running and fitness training.”
He added that it was key he “take time to get really fit and stay fit”, and that “everything else doesn’t make sense.”
