Romania 1 - 1 Montenegro: Romania and Montenegro share spoils in dramatic finish

Posted Monday, September 05, 2016 by PA

A dramatic finish saw Romania draw 1-1 with Montenegro in their World Cup qualifier in Cluj-Napoca.

A largely uninspiring 85 minutes preceded the opening goal as Romania, in their first game under their first foreign coach Christoph Daum, went ahead through Adrian Popa's strike from Nicolae Stanciu's cross.

It looked like it might prove to be the winning goal but the lead lasted only two minutes before Stevan Jovetic headed home from a Damir Kojasevic free-kick.

More late drama was to come as the hosts were awarded a penalty after Nikola Vukcevic fouled Claudiu Keseru, but Stanciu put his spot-kick well over the crossbar in the seventh minute of injury time.
