John Akinde sees goal after 23 seconds chalked off after rain forces abandonment

John Akinde scored the fastest goal in the Football League this season, only for it not to count after rain forced the League Two game between Newport and Barnet to be abandoned.

Akinde scored after just 23 seconds to hand Barnet an early 1-0 lead at Rodney Parade.

But that goal will be wiped from the records after referee Graham Salisbury ruled at half-time the pitch was no longer playable amid a torrential downpour.

Barnet's blistering start came when Jean Louis Akpa-Akpro burst down the right, Ben Tomlinson flicked on and Akinde volleyed home low past Joe Day.

Barnet almost doubled their lead moments later when Akinde teed up Curtis Weston, who struck the crossbar from 10 yards out.

Darren Jones, Reece Gregor-Cox and Sean Rigg all went close as Newport recovered, but to no avail as the heavy rain continued.
