Bolton Wanderers 1 - 1 Southend United: Keshi Anderson's debut goal earns point for leaders Bolton

Bolton maintained their unbeaten record with a 1-1 draw against Southend thanks to a debut goal from Crystal Palace loanee Keshi Anderson.

The 21-year-old scored in fortuitous fashion just after half-time when he jumped for a high ball with Southend keeper Ted Smith and saw his effort dribble over the line.

Bolton went into the day as League One leaders but got an early fright when 19-year-old Harry Kyprianou volleyed John White's cross home just three minutes in.

After that Phil Brown's side were very much second best, with Gary Madine seeing two penalty appeals turned down by referee Sebastien Stocksbridge and James Henry - a transfer deadline day capture from Wolves - fizzing another effort just wide.

After dragging themselves level and with Smith's confidence shaken, Bolton set about an aerial assault on the Southend penalty area and went close through centre-backs David Wheater and Mark Beevers.

Smith made partial amends with a fingertip save from Jay Spearing's dipping free-kick with 10 minutes to go and Brown saw out a tense last five minutes in the stands after being sent from his technical area.
