Paul Pogba explains why he returned to Manchester United

So, this summer's transfer window is finally over but it won't be forgotten in a hurry.

In years to come, people will look back at the 2016 summer transfer window and remember it was when Paul Pogba made a sensational return to Manchester United.

Not only did United resign the Frenchman, they did so in spectacular fashion by smashing the world record transfer fee in an £89 million deal.

Pogba left Old Trafford four years ago after making just seven appearances in three years. Juventus took a chance on the midfielder and Pogba has gone on to establish himself as one of the best young midfielders in world football, winning four Serie A titles in the process.

So why did Pogba decide to return to the Theatre of Dreams when his career has seemingly taken off since he left in 2012?

It certainly seems a baffling decision when you consider the Red Devils don't even have Champions League football this season and haven't finished above fourth in their previous three campaigns.

WHY POGBA HAS RETURNED

But Pogba has explained exactly why he wanted to move to Jose Mourinho's side this summer - and it's pretty simple.

"I came back because I wanted to and United showed that they wanted me back," he said, per Manchester Evening News.

UNITED'S GOALS THIS SEASON

The 23-year-old has also outlined what his side are planning to achieve this season and his comments echo exactly what his manager Jose Mourinho has previously said.

"We have a good team who wants to win they league again with a big manager, top players and a new team.

"My ambition is always to be No.1, always be the best.

"To be the best is to win the league - that is the objective of everyone. That's what we want to do.

"We want to go back to the Champions League because I know that's where we belong."

POGBA ON ZLATAN

While Pogba may well be the most expensive player in the world, he probably isn't even the biggest star to arrive at United this summer. That's because a certain Zlatan Ibrahimovic was snapped up on a free transfer this summer.

The Swede has started life in Manchester magnificently having scored four goals from his first four matches and has seemingly already struck up a fantastic bond with Pogba off the pitch.

Pogba has revealed what Zlatan is really like in the dressing room and highlighted his importance in the team.

"Zlatan is like the big brother of everyone I would say - he always makes jokes makes everyone relax and on the pitch he is a winner," Pogba said.

"He will really help the team."
