Gareth Bale 'couldn’t care less' about Paul Pogba breaking his transfer record

Gareth Bale had been able to call himself the most expensive player in the world for the past three seasons after his £85 million move to Real Madrid from Tottenham in 2013.

However, the Welshman is no longer dubbed the priciest footballer on the planet after Manchester United splashed £89 million on Paul Pogba.

The Frenchman, who left United at the end of his contract just four years ago, was resigned by Jose Mourinho for the record breaking fee after months of speculation.

But what does Bale think of losing his tag?

Well, he doesn't think much of it, it seems.

"I'm not fussed - I couldn't care less! None of the players have pulled my leg about it," Bale said when asked about him no longer being the world's most expensive player.

Well, that's that then.

After making his big-money move, Pogba will be hoping to emulate the impact Bale has made since his high-profile move three years ago.

Bale has gone on to win two Champions League trophies for the Bernabeu club and will be hoping he can help his side retain their trophy this year. Madrid would become the first club to successfully defend their crown under the modern format and it would represent their third triumph in four seasons.

WINNING THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE IN CARDIFF

There is an extra incentive for Bale this season with the final of the competition being played at Cardiff's Principality Stadium.

"That would be nice," he said.

"My aim is to win as many trophies as I can, as many Champions Leagues as I can. That will be the aim again this year.

"I played the Super Cup in Cardiff before and it was an amazing experience to have my friends and family close by. I suppose there's a little more motivation if there needs to be any more and we'll be trying to make history in Cardiff.

"We know the final is in Cardiff and it would be amazing to get there.

"It's exciting times for us all and we all look forward to it."

Having only just turned 27, there is still plenty of time for Bale to command another record breaking fee during his career. In fact, the Red Devils have been linked with Bale in previous transfer windows and would surely have to pay more than £89 million to sign him.

Although, don't expect Bale to care if he does become the world's most expensive player once again.
