Dunfermline 0 - 1 Queen of South: Derek Lyle strike enough for Queen of the South

Posted Sunday, August 28, 2016 by PA

Derek Lyle scored the only goal as Queen of the South maintained their unbeaten start to the Scottish Championship season by beating Dunfermline at East End Park.

Queens had a huge let-off in the 12th minute when Lyle's free-kick hit both posts before David Hutton cleared.

Stephen Dobbie squandered a decent opening for the visitors before they did take the lead on the stroke of half-time.

Jamie Hamill's free-kick found Andy Dowie at the far post and his header across goal was converted by Lyle for his third goal in as many games.

Dunfermline were reduced to 10 men in the 62nd minute when Jason Talbot saw red for violent conduct following a two-footed tackle on Kyle Jacobs.

The home side came close to a leveller when Andy Geggan's shot from range was spilled by Lee Robinson but Ryan Williamson was unable to convert the rebound.
