Southampton captain Fonte WANTS Man Utd move (Arsenal also considered)

Southampton captain Jose Fonte WANTS to join Manchester United this month.

The Daily Star says he wants to quit Southampton to join United.

United had informal talks with Saints last week about signing the defender in a £10m deal.

Fonte is keen to move to the Red Devils, who are willing to use Argentine ace Marcos Rojo as bait.

But now Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger - who has defenders Per Mertesacker and Gabriel out injured long term - is also interested.

The 32-year-old, who helped Portugal win Euro 2016, has been offered a new deal by Saints but has told friends that he wants to prove himself at a bigger club.

United have the edge as his agent is Jorge Mendes, who also represents United boss Jose Mourinho - who rates Fonte as one of the most reliable and technically gifted defenders in the top flight.
