Chelsea FC vs West Ham United - Leicester blueprint impresses Antonio Conte

Antonio Conte has told Chelsea to emulate the team spirit Claudio Ranieri fostered as Leicester swept to last season's Premier League title.

Former Italy boss Conte has admitted he will struggle to sleep the night before Chelsea host West Ham in Monday's league season opener at Stamford Bridge.

The ex-Italy midfielder revealed he often wakes up in the middle of the night with a tactical brainwave, and now wants his Chelsea players to live and breathe football in exactly the same way.

Leicester produced the Premier League's most unlikely triumph last season, with Conte paying tribute to compatriot and City boss Ranieri.

"It's a fantastic example," said Conte of Ranieri's team spirit at Leicester.

"And I think that a great club must always look to the last season for what happened. Because a team, a great team, who win the league, became a great team, Leicester.

"Ranieri did a fantastic job and the players did a fantastic job, because they created the right spirit.

"And when you watch Leicester's games you understand this great feeling between the players.

"Every player is ready to help his team-mate because he knows in another situation his team-mate will help him.

"It's important to have this if you want to win. It's important to have talented, fantastic players, but it's important as well to create the right spirit."

West Ham defender Angelo Ogbonna refers to Conte as the tailor - and believes his former manager is cut from the same cloth as Slaven Bilic.

Conte worked with Ogbonna at both Juventus and with the Italy national team as recently as Euro 2016.

And the 28-year-old centre-back thinks Conte will do well in England, backing him to turn Chelsea's fortunes around after they finished 10th last season.

"I call him 'tailor' because he arrived at Juventus when they were not playing well and the same with Italy and he can repair them, it is the same with Chelsea," he said.

"I think he will bring passion to the Premier League. He likes to improve his players with physical methods and likes to improve the character.

"When I heard he was being appointed Chelsea manager and had the chance to come into the Premier League, I think it is good for him.

"It is the same with Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho as well. It is good for the Premier League and something is changing. The football will improve."

Conte is known for the passion he exudes on the touchline and Ogbonna compared him to his West Ham boss Bilic.

"Conte has improved me as a player and all the players he worked with. I have a similar coach as well in Slaven who has the same character and both of them can improve players," he added.

"He (Conte) is similar to Slaven, proper similar. Slaven has a good humour and good passion and doesn't like to lose.

"When he loses he is so angry. I think he is similar, they look for the human being first and after that the player, that is how you can compare."

Michy Batshuayi and N'Golo Kante are standing by for their Chelsea debuts on Monday but Kurt Zouma continues to be sidelined with long-term knee trouble.

West Ham boss Bilic has a number of decisions to make in regards to his team.

He has already confirmed Dimitri Payet will not be fit to play the whole game after returning back to pre-season following his Euro 2016 exploits with France, while new signings Andre Ayew and Arthur Masuaku also need to prove their fitness if they are to make their debuts.

Aaron Cresswell and Manuel Lanzini (both knee) are definitely out but former Chelsea youngster Gokhan Tore (knee) is back in training.
