THE BOSS: Mourinho said he's used to the pressure
The Leicester manager’s achievement in winning the Premier League title last season was hailed as the greatest ever.
And the Manchester United boss admits it was an “unbelievable” feat.
But Mourinho, who was brought in to replace the sacked Ranieri when he had his first spell at Chelsea, certainly will not have an inferiority complex at the Community Shield showdown.
The new Old Trafford chief, who has won titles in four different countries, said: “I have my career and he has his career.
"Ask him if he would change his career for mine. I wouldn’t change mine for his.
"But last season was an unbelievable achievement of course. I think only the ones who had a bet and made all that money expected that to happen.
"I don’t think anyone in this room would have thought about it. But when you saw how Leicester were going and the way the big clubs were not going by December or January, you could start feeling, ‘Hey, this is possible.’
"But before the season started? No.”
Mourinho admits his own CV means he’ll be expected to be an instant success at United.
The former Chelsea boss said: “We need time – I cannot tell you that we are going to start the season at 100 miles per hour.
"But it’s not new in my career for the pressure to be on instantly. Everywhere I’ve had to cope with that situation.
"It doesn’t matter where I am, everyone expects big things. It’s nothing new for me.
"And I like to create that expectation. I like the players to feel it. Sometimes during my career I’ve created some unrealistic targets and by doing that you push the team to unexpected levels.
"To win the Champions League with Porto or Inter was unexpected. To win the championship in the first season is a little bit of the same – but I like that. People analyse that as arrogant and so on but it’s not a problem for me.
"The reality is I always feel that the establishment of very difficult targets can only help us.”
Mourinho also vowed to change United’s style of football after the Louis van Gaal reign, with the emphasis on attacking.
He said: “The squad was previously with a top manager but who had different ideas to mine.
"For instance United’s right-back and left-back have spent two years passing the ball to a central defender.
"The target is to play football adapted to the quality of your players.
"I don’t think Wayne Rooney and Zlatan Ibrahimovic are players to play on the counter-attack.
"We have to be dominant and one way is to play in the last third and to use the best quality of two strikers like Rooney and Ibrahimovic.”
