Reading vs Preston North End - Injury concerns for Jaap Stam ahead of Preston opener
Posted Friday, August 05, 2016 by PA
Reading manager Jaap Stam has a number of injury worries ahead of their Sky Bet Championship opening game against Preston on Saturday.
Speaking in a press conference on Thursday the former Holland international revealed that midfielder Stephen Quinn has been out due to injury for a couple of weeks and will remain on the sidelines this weekend.
Dominic Samuel is also unavailable due to a knee problem and Joseph Mendes will not be included despite starting light training away from the group this week as he recovers from injury.
Garath McCleary and Yann Kermorgant have both rejoined training, though, and are in contention against the Lilywhites.
Defender Calum Woods and striker Stevie May are both ruled out for Preston.
Woods underwent knee surgery on Wednesday while May is still recovering from a knee ligament operation which has sidelined him since December.
Liam Grimshaw, Tom Clarke or Chris Humphrey will deputise for Woods while manager Simon Grayson looks for long-term cover.
All seven summer signings - Chris Maxwell, Eoin Doyle, Tommy Spurr, Anders Lindegaard, Simon Makienok, Callum Robinson and Ben Pringle - are available.
