Paris Saint-Germain coach Unai Emery has named Italy international midfielder Thiago Motta as the club's vice-captain, according to the club's official website.
The 33-year-old was handed the captain's armband in the absence of regular captain Thiago Silva as his side thrashed English Premier League champions Leicester City 4-0 in the International Champions Cup at the weekend.
The club's website revealed that Motta would be deployed as the club's vice-captain next season, deputising to Silva.
The former Barcelona man was the Ligue 1 champions' third choice captain behind Silva and Zlatan Ibrahimovic – who has since moved to Manchester United.
Motta is expected to lead his side in Saturday's Trophée des Champions against Olympique Lyonnais in Austria on Saturday, 6 August.
