The Manchester Evening News say that the German's injury record is unlikely to sit well with his new boss Jose Mourinho.

The Portuguese is said to be proud of his players' fitness and Schweinsteiger just won't cut the mustard based on last season's evidence.

The World Cup winner had a slow start to the season after being brought in by axed manager Louis van Gaal before missing 13 games after picking up a knee injury in January.

He then returned before being sidelined with another knee problem which meant he missed the rest of the season.

In terms of a replacement, United are chasing French midfielder Paul Pogba in what could be a world-record deal.

The Red Devils have been tipped to launch a £100m bid in the next few days as chief executive Ed Woodward stays in Europe to try and get the deal done.

DANGER ZONE: Bastian Schweinsteiger's future is in doubt at Manchester United

Schweinsteiger is still on holiday after representing Germany in Euro 2016.

But those who have returned to training at Carrington flew out to China this afternoon for their lucrative pre-season tour of the Far East.
