Mourinho to discard 92 million euros worth of talent

Manchester United have already cracked open the chequebook this summer with the arrivals of Eric Bailly, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Zlatan Ibrahimovic costing around 80 million euros, but they are also willing to take a financial hit by selling four unwanted players - who cost the club a combined 92 million euros.

New coach Jose Mourinho wants to start from scratch and, as such, there is unlikely to be a place for Daley Blind, Marcos Rojo, Bastian Schweinsteiger or Juan Mata.

All four of these players arrived at Old Trafford in the past two and a half years, but the club is willing to sell them this summer, according to the Daily Record.

Blind, Rojo and Schweinsteiger have all failed to live up to their billing since arriving, while Mata - who has become a fan favourite since signing in January 2014 - is not the kind of player Mourinho wants to work with, as the Portuguese demonstrated by selling him to United while at Chelsea.

It remains to be seen how much the Red Devils could recoup by selling the quartet on, but it is likely that they would make a loss on their original - and recent - investments.

However, the club is willing to do whatever it takes to challenge for a first Premier League title since the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013, and the new record-breaking Premier League TV deal means that they have the resources to do so.
