The Kop boss is now believed to be in discussions with Boston-based Fenway Sports Group about a contract extension.

The talks are believed to be in the very early stages, but FSG are convinced they have one of the world’s top managers and want to secure his future.

Jurgen Klopp approached over new Liverpool contract

Former Borussia Dortmund chief Klopp, 49, still has two years left on the contract he signed in October when he replaced the sacked Brendan Rodgers at Anfield.

There is an option of a further year, but Starsport understands the offer FSG are proposing to the German will take him beyond 2019.

Klopp led Liverpool to the finals of the Capital One Cup and Europa League final within eight months of taking over and is now adding to the squad this summer.

Despite losing both deciders, Liverpool’s top brass see him as the perfect manager to fulfil their ambitions of developing individuals and the team over the coming years within their structure.

FSG are also understood to believe tying down Klopp to a longer deal will warn off future interest in his services which could distract him from the work they have been so impressed with so far.
