Vicente del Bosque leaves his position as Spain coach
Vicente del Bosque's reign as coach of Spain has come to an end

The Spanish Football Federadion (RFEF) has confirmed that Vicente del Bosque is stepping down as coach of the national team.

Del Bosque revealed last week that he had "no intention" of staying on once his current contract expires at the end of July.

And following Spain's Euro 2016 second round defeat to Italy, Del Bosque's decision has been made official by the RFEF.

"Vicente del Bosque will not continue at the front of the national team," A RFEF statement read.

"The RFEF president, Angel Maria Villar, and national team selector, Vicente del Bosque, had a meeting today, July 4, in Madrid where the coach has told the RFEF president of his idea not to continue at the front of the national team."

And the statement added that the former Real Madrid boss has accepted an offer to continue working with the RFEF in a yet-to-be confirmed role.

The 65-year-old was appointed by the RFEF in 2008 to succeed Louis Aragones, who had led this squad to European Championship success, Spain's first since 1964.

Del Bosque would retain the trophy four years later, by which time he had ensured his position as Spain's most successful coach by winning the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

In total, Spain recorded 87 wins, 10 draws and 17 defeats under Del Bosque, while scoring 254 goals and conceding 79.
