Liverpool striker Christian Benteke demands pay rise in proposed Crystal Palace switch - report

Liverpool striker Christian Benteke wants a pay rise to make a Premier League switch to Crystal Palace, according to reports.

The Eagles made a formal approach for Benteke on Friday but their initial offer of £25m was rejected by Liverpool who hope to attract a bid in excess of £30m.

The Belgian looks set to leave Anfield this summer after falling down Jurgen Klopp’s pecking order during the 2015/16 campaign.

However, a move to Selhurst Park may be tricky as the Daily Mail say Benteke is asking for a pay increase to join the south London club.

It is claimed the huge transfer fee, along with hefty wages, may deter Palace from launching another bid as the move would limit spending in other areas.

Alan Pardew has already brought in Andros Townsend from Newcastle and French goalkeeper Steve Mandanda, while a move for James Tomkins is reportedly close to being agreed.

Benteke, 25, struggled towards the end of last season but netted 42 goals in 89 league games for Aston Villa in the top-flight and would strengthen Pardew’s attacking options.
