Barcelona confirm Marc Bartra’s €8m transfer to Borussia Dortmund

Barcelona have officially announced Marc Bartra’s transfer to Borussia Dortmund this evening.

The Catalan media reported earlier that the centre-half had decided to leave the Camp Nou in search of more regular first team football, with Dortmund named as the suitor.

According to Sport, Bartra gave the go-ahead for the Bundesliga giants to activate and pay his 8m euro buyout clause (which seems ridiculously low).

Having come through the La Masia ranks, Bartra is a local academy product, and ideally would have spent his entire career at his boyhood club.

But now 25, it seems he came to the conclusion that he needs to broaden his horizons and make more of his career, rather than warming the bench at Barcelona.

With Gerard Pique and Javier Mascherano Luis Enrique’s preferred pairing, Bartra had to battle with Vermaelen and Mathieu for minutes, and he evidently had enough.

Bartra underwent a medical at Dortmund this evening, and the 8m euro transfer has now been confirmed by the Catalan club.
