Al-Khelaifi: PSG failed this season
Blanc led the club to a fourth successive Ligue 1 title with eight games to spare, while they made a clean sweep of the domestic trophies on offer by winning the Coupe de la Ligue and Coupe de France.

The French coach revealed at the start of the campaign that the Champions League had been the main priority for PSG, but they crashed out at the quarter-final stage for a fourth straight year.

As such, Al-Khelaifi has deemed the campaign a disappointment, saying the team's performance in their 1-0 defeat at home to Manchester City in the second leg still leaves a bitter taste in his mouth.

"Honestly I think we failed this season in spite of the new trophies on a national level," he told Le Parisien. "We didn't reach our European goal so it's a bad season.

"I've been here five years and it's the first time that we have this feeling of failure. It's not simply the fact that we lost in the quarter-finals of the Champions League that makes me say that – it's the manner in which it happened.

"I'm very disappointed. We weren't ready mentally and we're all responsible – myself first of all. I didn't feel pressure before the matches against Manchester City.

"It was completely different against Chelsea – the players were nervous, they were hungry, they were ready. I didn't find that again against Manchester City. This elimination was the worst moment since I've been in Paris. It's still very difficult to accept."

Al-Khelaifi refused to back Blanc, who had signed a new two-year contract at Parc des Princes in February, declaring that the capital outfit were about to enter a "new cycle".

"I will not talk about particular cases at the moment. Big changes will take place, a new cycle will start – you'll see," he added.

"In any case, if we continue like that at every level, we won't get there."
