Manchester United are said to be close to signing Victor Lindelof from Portguese side Benfica. According to the many reports (via Daily Express), the Red Devils are interested in the youngster and are hopeful of agreeing a deal very soon.
Victor Lindelof is a 21-year-old Swedish defender, who currently plays for Benfica. The youngster has been tipped by many to be the ‘next big talent’ and has enjoyed a strong campaign this season with Benfica. He has made 30 appearances in all competitions and also helped the club clinch the Primeira Liga title.
The Swede has made just 2 appearances for his national side, receiving his first call up to the senior Sweden squad in March. His debut however, resulted in an away loss against Turkey (2-1), in an international friendly.
According to Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet, Premier League giants Manchester United have already made an offer, in the region of £20million, for the centre-back.
Although having said that, Portuguese publication Record, claim that any offer that in excess of £15million is likely to be accepted by Benfica.
However, Manchester United could face some stiff competition for the youngster as La Liga champions Barcelona, are reportedly interest in securing the Swede’s signature too.
Lindelof has come close to move to England in the past. He almost joined newly promoted Premier League side Middlesbrough on loan, in January. However, injuries at the Benfica prevented the deal from going through.
The defender was said to be ‘not so keen’ on moving to the then Championship club, and has admitted switch to the Premier League was more in line with his plans.
