Mesut Ozil could become Arsenal's highest earner

Ozil is believed to be in talks over a bumper contract extension which would see him earn a similar amount to Alexis Sanchez.

Recent reports suggested Manchester United are lining up a move for the German midfield maestro.

Jose Mourinho, who is widely expected to replace Louis van Gaal, has set his sights on Ozil should he get the job.

But according to the Daily Mail, Arsenal are prepared to smash their wage ceiling to seal a bumper deal for Ozil.

It is suggested the 27-year-old could earn £200,000-a-week.

Should he sign it, he would become Arsenal's highest earner of all time.

The deal is expected to take into account huge add-ons and bonuses.

Ozil currently takes home around £140,000-a-week and has two years left to run on his present contract.

Arsenal finish off their Premier League season at home to Aston Villa on Sunday (3pm).

Ozil is hoping to break Thierry Henry's record of 20 for most assists in a single league campaign.
