CANCELLED: John Terry's farewell is not happening amid speculation he could stay at the club

And that has sparked rumours the former England captain could be about to sign a 12-month extension at Stamford Bridge.

The Sun report Blues officials contacted the event organisers on yesterday to cancel the tribute to the Chelsea legend.

Terry had believed there was no chance of him staying at Stamford Bridge after 18 years at the club and was preparing to leave after the match against Leicester on Sunday.

EXPERIENCE: Antonio Conte wants to keep Terry at Chelsea

The farewell tribute to the 35-year-old was titled “captain, leader, legend”.

But now it has been cancelled, Terry has fresh hope he could extend his stay under incoming boss Antonio Conte.

The Italy manager believes the club captain's experience could prove to be a major asset as he prepares to overhaul the squad this summer.

Teams in the Chinese Super League and the Middle East are interested in Terry, as well as Danish side FC Midtjylland.

However, they would need the defender to substantially lower his £150,000-a-week wage to have any chance of signing him.

Terry has played his last game if the season for Chelsea after being sent off against Sunderland last week.

The Blues hero has made 33 appearances in all competitions this campaign.
