John Terry pleads with Chelsea to let him stay at Stamford Bridge

Perhaps John Terry is not quite as ready to say his final goodbyes to the Bridge as we once thought. Having been banned from Chelsea's final two games against Liverpool and Leicester City, Terry has now changed his tune and is apparently pleading with incoming Chelsea manager Antonio Conte to keep him at Stamford Bridge for another year.

'I still want to play for a couple of years, hopefully that's at Chelsea,' Terry told Brondby TV, per the Metro.

'I'm a Chelsea player and that has been my club since the age of 14.

'I love Chelsea.'

Terry's contract expires at the end of the season and he announced earlier this year that the club would not offer him another year with the club. He insisted that he would continue playing football but implied he would not continue playing in England.

It's possible that Terry's inability to get 'designated player' status and the corresponding big contracts from potential MLS sides may have given him pause to leave England so quickly. Non-DP players in the United States make around £5,000-a-week - a far cry from his £100,000-a-week wages with the Blues.

Meanwhile, his former Chelsea Frank Lampard, Didier Drogba, Ashley Cole and Shaun Wright-Phillips have all cashed in with high-spending American clubs.

Short of a reunion with his old friends in the U.S., the most lucrative paths for Terry to continue playing football would likely be in China or the Middle East.
