Matic: Chelsea will be back next season

Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic insists the Blues still have the quality to be the best team in England, despite their woeful form this campaign.

The Serbian midfielder, like most of his teammates, has suffered a dip in performance since winning the title last campaign, with their 12th defeat of the season coming against relegation-threatened Sunderland at the weekend.

“This is football – sometimes you win, sometimes not,” he told the club’s official website. “Last season we were champions but this season we were not even close. We will see in the future what we can do.

“This season was not good for us, but I believe in our quality, I believe in myself and I know what I can do. We will see what we can do next year. Every season is a different story.

“Everything can change in a couple of months. We had the winning mentality, we were champions, and then in a couple of months we lost that. In a couple of months, everything can be back. We’ll see.”

The Blues will somewhat fittingly end their Premier League campaign at home to their successors, 2015/16 champions Leicester City, after taking on Liverpool at Anfield on Wednesday.
