Sampdoria 0 - 3 Genoa: Suso nets brace as Genoa ease past Sampdoria to earn bragging rights

Suso scored twice as Genoa humbled their Derby della Lanterna rivals Sampdoria 3-0 to reach 10th place in the Serie A table on Sunday afternoon.

After Leonardo Pavoletti gave the Grifone an early lead at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris, on-loan AC Milan player Suso notched either side of the break to ensure Genoa avenged January's derby defeat to struggling Samp.

Gian Piero Gasperini's men will now hope to cement a top-half finish with a positive result from their final game of the season, against Atalanta next weekend.

Samp were all but assured of a top-flight place come kick-off and therefore seemed rather complacent, with Genoa starting the derby in a hungrier mood.

It only took young Italy striker Pavoletti three minutes to strengthen his claim for a call-up to Antonio Conte's Euro 2016 squad by opening the scoring with a close-range finish past Emiliano Viviano.

Genoa kept probing and doubled their advantage in the 26th minute as former Liverpool midfielder Suso collected Pavoletti's pass before firing a left-footed drive beyond the beaten Viviano.

Samp might have responded before the break but Roberto Soriano could not get the better of Eugenio Lamanna after being set up by Antonio Cassano.

Any doubts as to which side of the Ligurian city the bragging rights were headed were put to bed in the 74th minute as Suso made the points safe.

The tricky 22-year-old Spaniard completed his brace thanks to Pavoletti, who passed Panagiotis Tachtsidis' failed shot across the box for a clean finish.
