Bury 3 - 2 Southend United: Ryan Lowe scores a double on Bury farewell

Ryan Lowe enjoyed a fairytale farewell at Bury, scoring twice as the Shakers came from behind for a 3-2 home win against Southend.

The visitors twice took the lead in the first half but Lowe's 31st-minute equaliser made it 2-2. Bury then won a stoppage-time penalty and club legend Lowe, who was captain for his final game for the club, stepped up to clinch victory with his 70th goal in 160 games for the Shakers.

Franck Moussa got a lively first half under way by firing home from the edge of the box on eight minutes. But Bury were level on 21 minutes when Lowe's cross was turned into his own net by Adam Barrett.

Southend were back in front just two minutes later as David Mooney's snap-shot went in off a post. Moussa then cut back for Tyrone Barnett but the striker fluffed his shot wide and Lowe made him pay, side-footing home from Danny Mayor's lay-off.

Southend then struck the woodwork either side of the break, with David Worrall's shot clipping a post before Mooney volleyed against the bar. Sam McQueen almost forced in a third for the Shrimpers but moments later Lowe's header struck McQueen's arm. The veteran striker put the spot-kick into the bottom corner to ensure Bury finished above Southend in mid-table of League One.
