Hecking: We want to sharpen the senses

VfL Wolfsburg head coach Dieter Hecking believes the training camp to Grassau am Chiemsee was necessary to change the negative atmosphere permeating the squad recently.
The Wolves have slipped down to 10th in the Bundesliga standings after failing to win in their last five games in all competitions, and are currently on a four-match losing streak.
The club took the decision to take the squad to Bavaria for a special training camp in the hopes a change of scenery would help them end the season strongly.
“This is a measure to sensitise certain things with the players. We really just wanted to get out again,” he told the club’s official website.
“The past few weeks in Wolfsburg weren’t very pleasant, so a different atmosphere is a good for us in preparing for the two games ahead. We want to sharpen the senses one again.
“Success won’t just fall into our laps, just because we are here now. If we don’t put in the leg-work and show more commitment, then the stay in Grassau won’t be much use to us either.”
Wolfsburg’s final two games of the season are against Hamburger SV and VfB Stuttgart, and Hecking is expecting both matches to be tough.
“HSV did very well in the first half against Bremen and put in a very disciplined performance in Mainz too,” he added.
“They were also particularly engaged in their home matches in recent weeks. They will do everything their power to secure their place in the top-flight with a win against us. That’s something we will have to be prepared for.”
