Hoffenheim moved a step closer to Bundesliga survival with a 2-1 win over Ingolstadt which effectively ends the Bavarians' outside chances of qualifying for the Europa League next season.

Stefan Lex put Ingolstadt in front in the 17th minute when he latched onto Marvin Matip's long ball to score, while Hoffenheim defender Ermin Bicakcic was off the field receiving treatment.

Hoffenheim levelled through Mark Uth 10 minutes before the break and the hosts had the chance to take the lead early in the second half from the penalty spot, but Andrej Kramaric's penalty was saved by Orjan Lyland.

Hoffenheim finally got the goal they deserved five minutes from time when Nadiem Amiri placed his shot from Kevin Volland's pass into the bottom corner to take Julian Nagelsmann's men six points clear of 17th-placed Werder Bremen, who face Stuttgart on Monday night, and four clear of the play-off spot. Ingolstadt are six points adrift of the top seven with two games of the season remaining.
