Borussia Dortmund manager Thomas Tuchel is hopeful star striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will return to training with a view towards returning to action against VfL Wolfsburg.

Aubameyang expected to return next week

Aubameyang was forced off the training pitch on Monday with pain in his toe and scans later revealed the bone had splintered, ruling him out of the midweek win over Hertha Berlin and Saturday’s match against VfB Stuttgart.

“Auba isn’t ready yet,” Tuchel told the club’s official website. “He’s feeling better, because he has been able to rest his toe.”

The striker had injured the same tow earlier in the season, but the Dortmund boss revealed it is a new injury. Tuchel believes the 26-year-old will return to training next week, but admitted it will come down to how much pain there is in the toe.

Tuchel is facing somewhat of a minor injury crisis, with Aubameyang joining Sven Bender, Marcel Schmelzer and Ilkay Gundogan on the treatment table.
