Livingston's place in the Scottish Championship relegation play-offs was confirmed after a 3-1 defeat at 10-man Queen of the South.

Queens came close to taking the lead in the 24th minute but Iain Russell saw his effort hit a post after being played clean through.

Livingston made him pay six minutes later as Sam Stanton fired them ahead after excellent link-up play between Liam Buchanan and Jordan White.

Charlie Telfer's 20-yard free-kick went just wide for Livingstone early in the second half before Queens equalised on the hour from the penalty spot.

Morgyn Neill fouled Russell and Derek Lyle made no mistake for his 16th goal of the season before he doubled his tally nine minutes later from Mark Millar's cross.

Gary Oliver extended Queens' lead 11 minutes from time from Dale Hilson's assist before they had Lewis Kidd (84) dismissed for two bookings in as many minutes.
