Empoli 1 - 0 Hellas Verona: Hellas Verona on the brink after Empoli defeat

Posted Thursday, April 21, 2016 by PA

Ten-man Hellas Verona are staring Serie A relegation in the face after going down 1-0 at Empoli.

The basement boys have only four games in which to save themselves and 17th-placed Carpi could seal their fate by opening a 12-point gap with victory at AC Milan on Thursday.

Verona had chances to score at the Stadio Carlo Castellani but it was Massimo Maccarone who grabbed the only goal of the game, the former Middlesbrough man notching in the 51st minute.

Federico Viviani's dismissal on the stroke of full-time meant Hellas were weakened in their quest to force a stoppage-time equaliser.
