Tottenham playmaker Christian Eriksen feels the side’s chances of challenging for the Premier League title next term hinge on retaining their key players in the off-season.

Eriksen: Spurs must keep key men

Spurs have a history of selling standout players at the end of successful campaigns, with the likes of Dimitar Berbatov, Luka Modric and Gareth Bale previously departing White Hart Lane after impressive turnouts for the north London club.

And, Eriksen believes bucking that trend will be crucial to challenging for league honours next season.

“We have the team to play for the title this season and if all the players stay and we have the same players next season we can do better hopefully,” he told The Telegraph.

Eriksen is no doubt referring to the likes of Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Erik Lamela and himself, all of whom are below the age of 25, have the potential to make Spurs a challenging side for several seasons to come.

“We are hoping every week that they drop a point,” Eriksen said of their rivals for the league trophy, “but, of course, they keep winning. We just keep trying and trail them for as long as possible and then at the end of the season we’ll see, he added. “It’s one game at a time where anything can happen.”
